Arrival at Split at 7.00 in the morning. Perfect timing, so we can explore the famous Palace before the heat and other tourists arrive 🙂
Amazing this ancient city within walls – sparks our imagination back to the old days!
At 10.00 am it is so hot we just want to sleep somewhere in the shade…. We tried to huddle up under a palm tree at the promenade when a young Croatian woman approached us offering to show us the way to the city beach where she intends to go with her friends anyway. She said it is kind of unusual wanting to sleep on the promenade…. Oki doki, we go ;). After 15 minutes walk in blazing sunshine we arrive at the beach and find a shady strip on a stony hill. Kids love it- all plans about sleeping are washed away in the clear blue water and gentle waves !
So absorbed with our beach fun we nearly missed the 3.00 pm ferry to Korcula….
Well- just made it- last people on the boat – everybody else already comfy in their seats… Of course they did not expect a family of six arriving late and reserved seats… so we occupied the few single seats scattered around the boat- Lilly ended up on my lap (that is true bonding- 2 hours on top each other in the heat …) and Nicholas next to a comfy looking elderly lady who did not seem to mind that his head rested on her shoulder- of course the kids all fell asleep after our adventures….
Plan was to take the earliest bus to Schwangau to be there before everybody else- castle opens at 9.00 am! But: the night before we met a Family from China who proudly told us they have a visiting slot for the castle at 6.30 am ! Mmh – and WE wanted to be early…
Continous Day 2 – 29. July 2013
After arriving in Munich in a downpour of rain, we found shelter in the Augustiner Brauhaus and enjoyed a beer, Brathendl and Schweinebraten in good bavarian tradition. On the way back to trainstation we took a stroll to Munich’s Marienplatz (all six of us with our backpacks…) before hopping on our overnight train to Zagreb, Croatia!
Day 1 – 28. July 2013
We have a heat wave in the North of Europe, so we start our Train Journey in 33 degrees at the Station in Baden- Mrs. Bs home town. Great excitement is our biggest companion when Mr and Mrs B enter the first train with their 4 little Bs and 6
